Machu Picchu continues to consolidate as the main tourist destination in Peru, registering more than 190,000 visitors in the first two months of 2025
Peru received good news during its participation at the International Tourism Fair – FITUR 2021, as the World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) has welcomed the country’s Exports and Tourism Promotion Board (PromPeru) as a Destination Partner.
Peru is participating at the International Tourism Fair – FITUR 2021 —which takes place in Spain— with a delegation led by Foreign Trade and Tourism Minister Claudia Cornejo and PromPeru’s Tourism Director Maria del Sol Velasquez. Besides, it comprises tour operators, travel agencies, and entrepreneurs.
The World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) represents the global private sector of Travel & Tourism and —as the global authority in this sector— promotes sustainable growth and works with governments as well as international institutions to create jobs, generate prosperity, and drive social impact.
“It is an honor to welcome PromPeru as a member of the WTTC, where it now shares a place with presidents, chairs, and chief executives of leading companies in the Travel & Tourism private sector,” WTTC Acting CEO Maribel Rodriguez stated.
PromPeru is a specialized technical agency attached to the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism (Mincetur), which is responsible for promoting international tourism to Peru, as well as for active promotion of exports and the attraction of foreign investment.
It is described as a dynamic entity that has the backing of the private sector in order to boost economic recovery to overcome the COVID-19 pandemic, which has caused a social and economic impact around the world.
“I ratify this agreement, convinced that it will be beneficial for all. Peru is a dream destination for millions of tourists from around the world. Our vast geography offers wide open spaces for nature, adventure, culture, and history tourism,” Minister Cornejo pointed out.
“Peru constitutes an ancient culture that looks to the future, that is eager to receive visitors with the best of our gastronomy, crafts, dances and, above all, with the joy and warmth for which we are widely known,” she added.
