Good news for tourism! Thanks to the agreement between the Peruvian Government and its South Korean counterpart, the suspension of the Visa Waiver Agreement will be lifted simultaneously on May 1 at 00:00 hours, thus allowing visitors to enter the other country without the need for a tourist visa.
As is known, the visa exemption between the Republics of Peru and Korea has existed since 1982. However, it was temporarily suspended on April 13, 2020, due to the health emergency caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Foreign Trade and Tourism Minister Roberto Sanchez highlighted the agreement reached between both countries.
Likewise, he reiterated the Government’s commitment and that of his sector in the reactivation of inbound tourism in Peru.
“Since President Pedro Castillo’s Government took office, the various ministries and the private sector have been working in an articulated manner on the comprehensive reactivation of tourism,” Minister Sanchez expressed.
“The Visa Waiver Agreement reached with the Republic of Korea will boost the arrival of Korean visitors (for them) to live the tourist experience in Peru, strengthening inbound tourism and positioning the country as a tourist destination of interest in the Asian country,” he indicated.
For Peruvians who wish to visit the Republic of Korea, a stay of up to 90 days is allowed without the requirement of a visa for the exclusive purposes of tourism or transit.
Nonetheless, participating in lucrative or remunerative activities within the period is forbidden.
