The Larco Museum also called Rafael Larco Herrera Museum which was founded in 1926 in the Hacienda Chiclín by Rafael Larco Hoyle in honor of his father, to preserve the archeology of the country.
14 years later is when Rafael Larco H. decides to move the museum to the city of Lima, starting construction on a pre-Columbian pyramid of the seventh century.
Today, the museum represents a great historical heritage with samples of over 4000 years that correspond to the pre-Columbian era. A place where we can find numerous collections of the Cultis Cupisnique, Salinar, Virú, Mochica, Chimú, Lambayeque, Chimú – Inca, northern Huari.
From around the world, the Larco museum is one of the few where visitors can tour the deposits and appreciate the 45,000 properly classified archaeological objects as well as one of the largest gold and silver collections of ancient Peru. In addition, his exhibition of erotic art with ceramic objects, one of the most visited attractions of Peru that have been exhibited in some of the most famous museums in the world.
The museum has 9 rooms classified according to the types of objects it has: gold and jewelery, lithic, vault, ceramics, metals, textiles, erotic and the incredible deposit of different objects.
