Welcome to Peru! Upon the arrival of your international flight you’ll be taken to your hotel where you can rest up. Come nightfall you can go out and wrap yourselves in the gastronomy of Peru, enjoying an exquisite dinner in one of the most attractive restaurants in Miraflores, one of Lima’s most celebrated districts. Where you will taste the delicious plates prepared exclusively from Peruvian ingredients such as corn and potatoes among many others, the guide will accompany you so you can all enjoy together while he gives some small explanations and details about the ingredients used in the preparation of these national dishes. LIMA – CITY TOUR + GASTRONOMIC HOUSE

Breakfast in the hotel. Lima was the most important city of the Spanish Viceroyalty in South America, and today is the 5th largest Latin-American city. The guide will highlight the most important monuments from this colonial period, including the Plaza Mayor and the Cathedral. You will visit the Catacombs of San Francisco which houses a sacred library, and also visit the House of Peruvian Gastronomy, this house has 10 exhibition halls and 3 complimentary rooms in which they produce 13 distinct ambiances throughout the building. They have used models and life-size recreations, along with information panels, gastronomic replicas among others. Known as a space that runs through a history of the gastronomy of our country, from the pre-Hispanic period through the colonial time, up to the creation of the Republic and the contemporary, displaying all the influences our gastronomy has had overtime, and not forgetting its distinctly close relationship with the native biodiversity and the variety of varying cultural dishes that the regions of Lima offers. After which we’ll travel by car, with beautiful views of the Pacific, through the modern parts of the city, seeing the contrast and color this city has to offer. Transport back to your hotel to rest for the evening. Overnight. (D)

LIMA – CUSCO – HUCHUY QOSQO COMMUNITY – SACRED VALLEY 

Breakfast in the hotel. Today you take a domestic flight out to the imperial city of Cusco (we recommend you take the first flight of the day), upon arrival a driver will be waiting for you to take you Lamay (Huchuy Qosqo Community), where the community residents will give you a warm welcome. Then they will take each of you to the specific residence/family that you’ll be visiting. You will be able to prepare a dish with the help of a member of the family, as well as participate in the diverse manners in which the unique Andean flavors are prepared with all natural products that come straight from the fields and right into the pots, such native Andean produce as the potato, quinoa, corn, and olluco among many others. The local guide will explain the importance of these agricultural products. Among the most outstanding dishes are Chaufa de quinoa (a take on the traditional Chinese fried rice plate but made with Quinoa instead of rice), trucha rellena (stuffed trout), enrollado de cuy (guinea pig roll), cuy al palo (guinea pig on a stick), saltado de verduras (stir-fried vegetables) and many others. Upon ending this beautiful and memorable day with the community you’ll be taken back to your hotel where you can relax.

SACRED VALLEY –  HACIENDA SARAPAMPA – SACRED VALLEY 

Breakfast in the hotel. The Sacred Valley is one of the most beautiful and mystical scenes in Peru, and is surrounded by a flurry of intense agricultural activity all surround its most prized product, “The Giant White Corn of Cusco” whose scientific name is: Almicea Zea mays. Corn is one of the oldest domesticated products that has been with the Andean population since their beginning. The Peruvian varieties of corn boast such a diverse array of colors, shapes, sizes, and culinary uses, simply unmatched by any other region in the world. At the Sarapampa Hacienda we’ll learn how corn has influenced the Andean Culture and its important role in the life of the colonial hacienda. Upon arrival to the hacienda, a guide will be waiting to greet you and together you will enjoy a welcome cocktail with some homemade snacks. After which you will take a quick guided tour of the hacienda for a true “corn experience”, from its agricultural process to the interpretation center. Followed by a truly unique culinary experience with a full 3 course menu made entirely up of locally farmed ingredients, some of which are distinctly local and others of which were introduced to form part of the hacienda diet since the colonial period, including drinks, an appetizer, a main dish, and a dessert to be enjoyed in the garden area of the Hacienda House. During lunch, you will get to enjoy a Marinera dance and Peruvian Paso Horse show. After enjoying this wonderful experience, you will be free to walk around the grounds, or simply relax and enjoy the unforgettable views. Ending the day, you will be taken back to your hotel where you can rest up and recharge your batteries for the tour the following day.

SACRED VALLEY – MACHU PICCHU – CUSCO 

Breakfast in the hotel.
Train ride to Machu Picchu! Today we’ll visit Machu Picchu. Very early we’ll part for the Ollanta train station to take our train to the majestic city of Aguas Calientes, the trip will take about 1 hour and 30 minutes, along the way you’ll be able to appreciate the lush natural landscapes that change according to the existing altitude. Arriving at the town’s station we’ll take a bus up to the Historic Sanctuary of Machu Picchu. The visit to the citadel will start by viewing the magnificent landscape that surrounds it. The total tour will last about 2 hours and 30 minutes, and will end with our descent by bus back to the town of Aguas Calientes, where do some shopping and have lunch.
At the specified time we’ll board the train back to Ollanta, from there we’ll be driven back to Cusco.

CUSCO – CITY TOUR – CUSCO 

Breakfast in the hotel. In the afternoon we’ll take a guided tour of the imperial city of Cusco, including the Cathedral and the Sun Temple (Qoricancha). Followed by a visit to Qenqo (Ceremonial and ritual center where the Incas made sacrifices), Puca Pucara (Old Tambo and Incan Watchtower), Tambomachay (Ceremonial center of Water Worship) and the Fortress of Sacsayhuaman (where the principal Incan festivals such as Inti Raymi and Warachicuy are celebrated). Return to hotel. Overnight. (B)

CUSCO – PUNO 

Breakfast in the hotel. Today we’ll leave the imperial city and travel to Puno on a domestic flight, upon arriving your driver will be waiting to meet you and take you to your hotel to rest and relax. Today will be a day of acclimatization.

CUSCO – CITY TOUR – CUSCO 

Breakfast in the hotel. Today will be a beautiful day, we’ll start by visiting Atuncolla, this community is located about 30 kilometers northeast of Puno, approximately 40 minutes from the airport. The tour will begin around 9:00 am, arriving at the San Andres Community located in this district; we’ll do a walk while the guide explains how the great grain is cultivated. This tour will last about 1 hour and 30 minutes, before arriving at the Humayo Lagoon, from here we’ll take a boat to Inti Moco Island, where you’ll be able to see such small animals like the native chinchilla, birds, etc. Returning to visit Sillustani, this area is located in the highest part of the mountains, surrounded by funeral towers (known aschullpas) and will wrap you in a halo of mystery, as this place is a giant mausoleum where the dead are buried. Ending this tour, we’ll return to the community where the locals will be waiting for us to enjoy together a delicious meal made of exquisite dishes prepared from all locally grown and hand-picked ingredients, but before lunch we’ll visit a cultivation field where you’ll be able to pick the grain straight from the field and select where you want it placed on the tables. The local guide will explain all that is needed to be known about this grain. Quinoa is an Andean grain that originates from the land surrounding Lake Titicaca in Peru and Bolivia, this grain was cultivated and used by pre-Hispanic cultures and then replaced by cereals after the arrival of the Spaniards, despite being a basic food staple of the population at the time. Quinoa is also referred to as the food of the gods, or the mother of all grains. Finishing the day, you’ll be taken back to your hotel, according to the coordinated time.

PUNO – TITICACA LAKE – PUNO

Breakfast in the hotel. Visit to the Floating Islands of Uros (3,810 masl), comprised of 20 islands made from totora (an aquatic species of sedge native to South America). Then a visit to Taquile Island (3,950 masl), up a path of finely placed stones and zigzags until we arrive at the town, approximately 1 hour of walking. Then time to visit the artisanal shops and do some shopping, after which we’ll head to the island’s restaurant to enjoy a delicious lunch made entirely from island produce. Return to Puno. Overnight.
