Machu Picchu leads Peru’s tourism in the first two months of 2025
Machu Picchu continues to consolidate as the main tourist destination in Peru, registering more than 190,000 visitors in the first two months of 2025
Many tourists arrived on Sunday morning in Colca Valley —the principal tourist destination in Arequipa region— after the resumption of tourist activities in the area.
Visitors arrived in the Cruz del Condor viewpoint since early in the morning to witness the majestic flight of the emblematic Andean bird: The condor.
Some 40 vehicles —including minivans, SUVs, and cars— were seen in the parking lot, according to Colca Autonomous Authority (Autocolca), the body responsible for the area.
Tourist activities in Colca Valley officially resumed on October 15 after being closed for 7 months due to the health emergency caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Restaurants, hotels, travel agencies, tour guides, artisans, among other sectors linked to the tourism industry, implemented the health protocols to prevent the spread of the virus and ensure a safe environment for visitors in the place.
In order to promote tourism in Colca Valley, Autocolca decided to exempt visitors from paying the entrance fee for two months, in order to motivate more visits to the area.
Colca Valley is located four hours away from the city of Arequipa, and there is a paved road leading to such natural site.
