New Jorge Chávez Airport began operations

On 1 June 2025, the new terminal at Jorge Chávez International Airport officially began operations, following the culmination of an intensive testing phase within the white march carried out in May, marking a before and after in Peru’s airport infrastructure.
After a 12-hour logistical transition, the first flight took off at 1:00 p.m. for Atlanta, operated by LATAM Airlines Peru. The terminal also received the arrival of flights from various international cities such as Madrid, São Paulo and Santiago de Chile.
The new terminal has the capacity to serve 38 million passengers in the coming years.

The New Airport has 04 levels:
Level 01 – International and Domestic Arrivals (Also located to the taxi chains authorised by the airport)
Level 02 – Boulevard or Commercial and Financial Area for passengers and general public. Access from the free road available for tourist services, long stay vehicles and the Aerodirect stop)
Level 03 – Check in and National / International Departures Area (Access allowed for private vehicles and taxis only to drop off passengers, with a time limit of 10 minutes)
Level 04 – Protocol Lounge, national and international VIP lounges.
It has 56 boarding lounges, distributed in three piers: domestic and international flights and a mixed area.
Travel Assistance
The new airport has several information screens with the option of a chatbot, which will provide essential information such as flight times.

More space, better assistance
Check-in area – 49 new self-service check-in modules + 29 modules to tag your hold baggage divided into halls.
Security screening – 27 baggage screening lanes with modern equipment to facilitate security screening.
Migration – 54 inspection modules + 29 e-Gates or electronic gates.
Despite the logistical organisation by the airport, the start of operations revealed some difficulties, especially in accessing the terminal. Currently, it can only be reached via Morales Duárez Avenue, which has generated criticism from passengers and travel agencies due to the lack of urban planning.
However, the authorities maintain high expectations and are confident that the new airport will be key to consolidating Peru as an attractive global destination.
