New Statute commemorating World Tourism Day

The Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism (MINCETUR), in commemoration of World Tourism Day, approved a new General Tourism Law that modernises and restructures the sector in Peru. This regulation, which updates the legal framework for tourism after 16 years, responds to the new realities of the sector worldwide and seeks to consolidate tourism as a key activity for the country’s economic, social and cultural development.

The main objective of the new statute is to recognise tourism as a true state policy, a strategic decision that ensures its inclusion among national priorities.

In this sense, the law becomes a long-term commitment, aimed not only at strengthening the sector, but also at ensuring sustainability and the inclusion of local communities in tourism processes. In this way, the sector will be able to generate greater investment and employment, while preserving the natural and cultural resources that make it unique.

This includes local authorities, tourism companies, civil society organisations and communities, which will be able to influence the policies and strategies that will govern the future of tourism in the country. This participatory approach seeks a more balanced development that considers both the needs of the private sector and the well-being of the populations that live off tourism.

With this reform, MINCETUR hopes not only to position Peru as a leader in tourism, but also to ensure that this growth is aligned with the principles of sustainability, inclusion, and social responsibility. The new General Tourism Law marks the beginning of a new era for the sector, promising to bring great benefits to both tourists and host communities.
