Peru Joins the Michelin Keys List: A New Recognition for Excellence in Hospitality
A milestone for Peruvian hospitality
For the first time, Peru has been included in the Michelin Keys list, the new distinction from the Michelin Guide that recognizes the world’s most outstanding hotels for their hospitality, design, service, and authenticity.
The announcement, shared by PROMPERÚ through its official tourism website peru.travel, positions Peru among the countries acknowledged by Michelin for hotel excellence, a significant step forward for the nation’s growing luxury tourism sector.
What are the Michelin Keys?
The Michelin Keys are a new system created by the Michelin Guide to recognize exceptional hotels around the world, much like the Michelin Stars do for gastronomy.
Hotels are classified into three levels:
- One Key: a very special stay.
- Two Keys: an exceptional stay.
- Three Keys: a unique stay — among the best in the world.
The evaluation is based on five universal criteria defined by Michelin:
- Architecture and interior design.
- Quality and consistency of service.
- Personality and character of the property.
- Value for the experience offered.
- Contribution to the local environment.
This initiative highlights hotels that deliver meaningful, authentic, and high-quality experiences that go beyond conventional luxury.
The Peruvian hotels recognized
In this first edition including South America, 14 Peruvian hotels were distinguished for their quality and commitment to excellence in hospitality.
Three Michelin Keys
- Las Casitas, A Belmond Hotel – Colca Canyon (Arequipa)
The only hotel in Peru to receive the top distinction of three Michelin Keys. Nestled in the Colca Valley, it blends natural beauty, privacy, and Andean culture to create a peaceful, world-class retreat.
Two Michelin Keys
- Inkaterra La Casona – Cusco
- Inkaterra Hacienda Urubamba – Sacred Valley
Both hotels were recognized for their focus on sustainability, respect for local identity, and service that connects guests with the spirit of the Andes.
One Michelin Key
- Cirqa – Arequipa
- Titilaka – Puno (Lake Titicaca)
- Explora Valle Sagrado – Cusco
- Tambo del Inka – Urubamba
- Inkaterra Machu Picchu Pueblo Hotel – Aguas Calientes
- Atemporal – Lima
- Hotel B – Barranco, Lima
- Belmond Monasterio – Cusco
- Belmond Palacio Nazarenas – Cusco
- Belmond Río Sagrado – Sacred Valley
- Belmond Miraflores Park – Lima
Each of these properties represents a different aspect of Peru’s diversity, from colonial heritage to contemporary design, all maintaining a commitment to authenticity and service excellence.
A reflection of Peru’s growth in tourism
The inclusion of these 14 properties demonstrates the steady evolution of Peru’s hospitality industry and its ability to compete in the international luxury travel market.
The recognition of both global brands — such as Belmond and Explora — and local pioneers like Inkaterra showcases how Peru successfully integrates cultural heritage, environmental awareness, and modern comfort within its tourism offer.
A step forward for Peru as a global destination
This milestone enhances Peru’s image as a comprehensive travel destination, capable of offering high-quality experiences that combine nature, culture, and comfort.
With its first Michelin Keys, Peru officially joins the global network of countries recognized for hotel excellence, reinforcing its position among the leading destinations for travelers seeking authenticity and world-class service.
