What Should Visit During Your Stay in Puno

The city of Puno is located in the South of our country and on November 4th celebrated its 351 anniversary of Spanish foundation. Here is a list of the places you can’t miss.

  • Lake Titicaca National Reserve: It is a protected natural area that has the purpose of conserving natural resources. This is house about 109 species of birds, and it´s maintain cultural traditions of the communities.
  • Taquile Island:  The Island belongs to the Amantani district, located 45 km from the capital and has a population of approximately 2,200 inhabitants. This community preserves cultural and ceremonial traditions that you can learn and enjoy.

  • Floating Island of the Uros:  It is a set of artificial surfaces built with totora, a plant that grows on the surface of Lake Titicaca. Its inhabitants, the Uros, are an ancestral town that is currently concentrated on the Collao Plateau and in Peru on the floating islands located in the Bay of Puno.
  • Sillustani Archaeological Site:  Funerary complex that houses tombs belonging to the Kolla culture. Tombs also called Chullpas have the shape of inverted cones. The bodies were mummified before being admitted to the chullpas.

  • Chucuito: It is a small town in the province of Puno, located about 18 km from the city of Puno on the edge of the Desaguadero and La Paz road (Bolivia). It is situated at 3 875 m.a.s.l.
