Global Big Day 2025
The Global Big Day 2025 event will take place on May 10th, where different institutions and specialists in ornithology will seek to promote the bird tourism segment in Peru.
The Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism in collaboration with eBird (a citizen science platform for bird registration and conservation) held an International Specialised Seminar on 24 and 25 April, entitled “Global Big Day: Peru, a birdwatching paradise”. During the event, the participants – including specialists, scientists, regional and local governments, tourism associations, among others – focused on strengthening their skills, with the aim of raising the quality of birdwatching tourism in the country.
One of the most important actions is the participation of the Allpahuayo Mishana National Reserve, a Peruvian protected area located in the province of Maynas, in the department of Loreto, which has joined Global Big Day 2025 with a strategy aimed at attracting visitors and strengthening birdwatching tourism. To this end, awareness-raising, training and promotion activities are being carried out with tour operators and local communities. This reserve, recognised for its high biodiversity, is home to more than 500 species of birds, many of which are endemic to the Amazon.
In this sense, The National Service of Protected Natural Areas by the State (SERNANP) seeks to position Allpahuayo Mishana as one of the ecosystems with the greatest ornithological richness in the Amazon.
Domiruth encourages all birdwatchers to visit this and many other Natural Protected Areas, which are under the protection and management of SERNANP, in order to see and increase the knowledge of the great diversity of native and endemic species that inhabit the different regions of Peru.
