Ayacucho exceeds expectations in Holy Week

Holy Week in Ayacucho, the city of 33 churches, is considered one of the most important religious and cultural manifestations in Peru, where it dazzled again this year 2025 with a massive attendance of national and foreign tourists. This festival, which runs for ten days – from Thursday 10 to Sunday 20 April – combines faith, tradition and artistic expression in a unique experience for visitors.
According to data from the Regional Directorate of Foreign Trade and Tourism (Dircetur) Ayacucho, they registered the arrival of 29,120 national and foreign visitors and pilgrims during these dates, which exceeds the estimated projection of tourist flow and represents an increase compared to the previous year. This tourist movement generated an economic impact, boosting key sectors such as hotels, gastronomy, transport, commerce and community tourism.
Among the main attractions during the festival were the Pampa de Ayacucho, the Wari archaeological complex, Vilcas Huamán, the turquoise waters of Millpu, the Puyas de Raimondi and Puncupata, where cultural and nature tourism were highlighted.

In addition, craft fairs, sacred music performances and parallel cultural activities were held, highlighting the historical and religious value of the region. Visitors from different parts of the country and abroad enjoyed the renowned Ayacucho hospitality, as well as its exquisite gastronomy and artistic wealth.
The local and regional authorities highlighted the organisation of the event, the articulated work of the service providers in conjunction with different institutions and the communities, and reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening this festival as an engine of tourism and cultural development in the region.
