Chiclayo Prepares for Pope Leo XIV’s Visit

The Lambayeque region continues to make progress in its preparations to welcome Pope Leo XIV during his visit scheduled for November of this year. As part of this process, authorities have been implementing initiatives aimed at strengthening the region’s tourism offerings by training more than 3,000 service providers—including tour guides, hotels, restaurants, and tour operators—to ensure high-quality service for the thousands of domestic and international visitors expected to arrive in the region.

The training initiatives aim to enhance the tourist experience by improving areas such as customer service, hospitality, tourist information, and the promotion of the Lambayeque region’s cultural and religious heritage. Furthermore, these preparations are expected to help establish the destination as a leading hub for religious tourism.

At the same time, the city of Chiclayo welcomed a delegation of 14 representatives from the Vatican who have been evaluating the sites and attractions the Holy Father will visit, including those featured on the “Ruta del Papa” (Pope’s Route), developed by Y tú qué planes. In addition, the Chiclayo Industrial Park is being considered as a possible venue for the main Mass.

Meanwhile, coordination efforts continue between local and national authorities to upgrade infrastructure, strengthen security, and organize the necessary logistics for the Holy Father’s visit. It is estimated that his visit, as a major event, will attract thousands of pilgrims, generating a positive impact on the local economy.

The arrival of Pope Leo XIV represents an opportunity to position Lambayeque as an international tourist destination, boosting not only religious tourism but also the promotion of its cuisine, culture, and archaeological attractions.
