Easter Week boosts tourism in Peru

The long Easter holiday generated significant growth for tourism in Peru. According to the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism (Mincetur), around 1.9 million people travelled through different regions of the country, generating an economic impact of around 222 million dollars, benefiting service providers such as transport, accommodation, gastronomy, tour guides, among others.
Pueblos con Encanto
As part of its strategies to diversify the tourism offer, Mincetur promoted the campaign “Pueblos con Encanto” (Charming Towns), which sought to encourage national and international visitors to explore cultural and natural destinations during the holidays.
Currently, twelve destinations have obtained recognition as Charming Towns, including Lamas (San Martín), Chacas (Áncash), Quinua (Ayacucho), Sibayo (Cusco), Malabrigo (La Libertad) and Pozuzo (Pasco) were recommended. These places offer foreign tourists an authentic experience based on cultural identity, traditional architecture and quality of service, positioning community-based tourism.

Nature tourism: foreign visitors touring Natural Protected Areas
Nature tourism, another segment highly valued by international travellers, also showed strong growth. According to the National Service of Natural Areas Protected by the State (Sernanp), more than 131,000 people visited ANP during Easter Week, which represents a growth of 7.66 % over the previous year.
The most visited protected areas were the following:
- Paracas National Reserve (Ica)
- Huascaran National Park (Ancash)
- Tambopata National Reserve (Madre de Dios)
- Lachay National Reserve (Lima)
- Historic Sanctuary of Machu Picchu (Cusco)

This type of tourism contributes not only to the visitor’s enjoyment and learning, but also to the sustainable economic development of local communities and the conservation of the country’s natural heritage.
The results obtained during this holiday reflect progress in the recovery of tourism after the pandemic, where new cultural and natural attractions are taking on greater value.
MINCETUR has reaffirmed its commitment to continue promoting campaigns that stimulate the local economy, encourage responsible tourism and provide safe experiences for visitors. Likewise, alliances with regional and local governments will continue to be strengthened in order to promote tourism infrastructure, the formalisation of the sector and the care of cultural and natural heritage.
