Machu Picchu leads Peru’s tourism in the first two months of 2025

Machu Picchu continues to consolidate as the main tourist destination in Peru, registering more than 190,000 visitors in the first two months of 2025, according to the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism (Mincetur). This figure reaffirms its position as an icon of cultural heritage, where 63% correspond to foreign visitors and 37% to national visitors.
The increase in visits reflects a sustained recovery in the tourism sector of 16.7% compared to the previous year and highlights the cultural value and international appeal that the Inca citadel, considered one of the seven wonders of the modern world, maintains.
The tourist flow has also generated an impact on other destinations such as Sacsayhuaman, Paracas and the Ballestas Islands which have also reported positive figures, which is directly benefiting tour operators, hotels, restaurants and local communities that depend on tourism. Authorities have indicated that measures will continue to be implemented to ensure a safe and sustainable experience for visitors.

Continuing the recovery of inbound tourism, the first two months of the year saw an estimated 796,000 international tourists, representing a 3.6% increase over the same period last year. This statistics also marks a recovery of 72.2% compared to pre-pandemic levels. It is also noted that the month of January saw the highest flow of foreign tourists.
The main countries of origin were Chile, the United States, Ecuador, Bolivia, Colombia and Brazil), with the South American market leading the inflow of tourists (55.3 %), followed by the North American market (21.7 %) and the European market (14.6 %).
This steady growth is evidence of the reactivation of the tourism sector in Peru, which is why the authorities continue to implement control, conservation and visitor care measures to ensure a safe and responsible experience in the country.
