Ollantaytambo among the best places in the world in 2023 according to the times magazine
Time magazine has named the Ollantaytambo Archaeological Park as one of the 50 best places to visit in the world this year.
The park, located in the Sacred Valley of the Cusco region, is an enormous Inca construction that has been gaining popularity as a tourist destination in its own right, rather than just as a stopover on the way to Machu Picchu.
Ollantaytambo features crowd-free ruins, sustainable glamping accommodations, and local restaurants serving Andean cuisine. The village of Ollantaytambo is also home to a number of guided tours, including visits to nearby Pumamarca ruins, and the Starlodge Adventure Suites offer visitors a unique sleeping experience in mountain capsules. Additionally, the magazine highlights a new initiative that aims to promote responsible tourism development in the villages.
To create its list of the top spots to visit this year, Time solicited nominations from its international network of correspondents and contributors.
The result is a list of 50 destinations from around the world, ranging from familiar places like Giza and Saqqara in Egypt to the gastronomy hot spot of Dijon, France. Some of the destinations on the list are focused on sustainable tourism practices, such as the Tuamotu Archipelago in French Polynesia, which is moving towards allowing only one foreign visitor per local resident. Others, like the city of Medellin, Colombia, are thriving, growing, and changing.
