Peru: a paradise with the greatest number of butterfly varieties

Peru is impressive because of its authentic biodiversity, not only because of its thousands of species of flora and fauna that create an impressive ecosystem, but also because of the wealth of microclimates that allow the coexistence of so many species that they are a temptation for bio-researchers.

It is known that there are approximately 17,000 species of butterflies registered in the world. And of these, in Peru alone, there are more than 4,000 species.

The most attractive areas for butterfly watching are Cusco, our Amazon rainforest and especially the Manu Reserve.

These beautiful insects, symbols of spiritual harmony, which are impressive for their colourful and multicoloured wing configurations, are a true ecological wealth that our country boasts. Although they can be seen from the Andean rainforests of northern Peru in Chachapoyas and Cajamarca, the highest concentration of butterflies can be seen in the Manu National Park, Cusco and Madre Dios, where up to 1,300 species have been recorded. In the ecological reserve of Machupicchu there are said to be more than 400 species.

And likewise in the jungle of Madre de Dios where the Tambopata National Reserve is located, there are more than 1,000 species.
