Peru named South America’s Leading Culinary Destination 2022

Peru has been chosen as South America’s Leading Culinary Destination 2022 by the World Travel Awards (WTA), Peru’s Exports and Tourism Promotion Board (PromPeru) reported on Thursday.

The Andean nation was also named as South America’s Leading Cultural Destination 2022.

Moreover, Machu Picchu —Peru’s top tourist destination— has received an international award that recognizes it as an important world attraction. This time, the Inca citadel was selected as the South America’s Leading Tourist Attraction 2022 by the World Travel Awards.

Likewise, Peru has garnered a total of 20 nominations in this regional edition, including South America’s Leading Adventure Tourism Destination, South America’s Leading River Cruise Company, South America’s Leading Whale Watching Destination, among others.

Gastronomic and cultural wealth

Peru has been named World’s Leading Culinary Destination eight times.

According to PromPeru, this is due, in part, to its great biological diversity.

“Peru ranks first in terms of varieties of potatoes and ajies (spicy peppers). Moreover, it hosts a wide variety of types of corn, Andean grains, tubers, and fruits,” it stated.

It is important to highlight the importance of positioning in the minds of potential Japanese travellers, considering that travel agencies are resuming the purchase of package tours to nearby destinations such as Hawaii from 28 April, after two years, which will influence the travel plans of the Japanese population for the coming months and end of the year. In this sense, the main tourist offices are resuming their promotional plans with consumers in this market.
