ProHass is holding the II International Congress on Avocado in 2020

The event will be held virtually from 11 to 13 November

The topics to be addressed are: physiology and nutrition; use of growth regulators; quality and post-harvest technology; flowering biology; integrated pest management; new varieties and rootstocks; avocado crop management; among others.

The Peruvian Association of Hass Avocado Growers (ProHass) will hold from November 11 to 13 the II International Congress of Avocado 2020, a technical/scientific event that gathers national and international exhibitors recognized in the avocado industry worldwide.

The objective of the event, which will take place virtually, is to update and enhance the knowledge of those attending. Besides improving the links and contacts of the different actors participating in the great industry of avocado growing.

The congress is aimed at growers, exporters, engineers and technicians of the companies dedicated to avocado growing, packing, marketing and/or export. Also, to teachers, scientists and students of universities, technological institutes and research centres related to the avocado growing industry. It is also expected the participation of foreign technicians and scientists linked to the avocado industry at global level, to learn more about the reality of avocado growing in Peru.

Among the topics to be discussed in this second edition of the congress, the following stand out: physiology and nutrition; use of growth regulators; quality and post-harvest technology; flowering biology; integrated pest management; new varieties and rootstocks; avocado cultivation management; among others. The international speakers are: Iñaki Hormaza, research professor in Subtropical Fruit Growing at IHSM La Mayora (Spain); Akif Eskalen, plant pathologist at the University of California, Davis (USA); Jeremy Burdon, post-harvest specialist at the New Zealand Food and Plant Research Institute; Jhon Bower, consultant in quality of horticultural crops (South Africa). As well as Neena Mitter, Director of the Centre for Horticultural Science, QAAFI at the University of Queensland, Australia; Mary Lu Arpaia, Associate Extension Specialist at the University of California, Riverside, USA; Carol Lovatt, Professor Emeritus at the University of California, Riverside, USA; Patricia Manosalva, Director of the Avocado Rootstock Improvement Program at the University of California, Riverside, USA. The national speakers are: Walter Apaza, main professor of the National Agrarian University La Molina; Jorge Castillo, main professor of the National Agrarian University La Molina; Jorge Barrenechea, independent consultant and former head of Senasa; José Manrique, head of cultivation of Agrícola Cerro Prieto; Teresa Arbañil, manager of Quality Assurance of Avocado Packing Company; Lady León, head of agriculture of Sun Fruits Exports. In addition to Luis Montgomery, Assistant Manager of Innovation at Camposol; Carlos Neuenschwander, Operations Manager of Agrícola Pampa Baja; Daniel Bustamante, Commercial Manager of Agrícola Cerro Prieto and President of ProHass; José Antonio Castro, Commercial Manager of Agrokasa; Omar Díaz, General Manager of Westfalia Peru; and Michael Horney, Commercial Manager of Mission Produce Peru.
