Three Peruvian dishes among top 100 dishes in the world

The prestigious gastronomic guide TasteAtlas has included three Peruvian dishes in its 100 Best Dishes in the World list, Peru’s Exports and Tourism Promotion Board (PromPeru) reported on Monday.

Ceviche Mixto (Mixed Ceviche) was the best-placed Peruvian dish in the ranking, coming in eighth place, according to more than 100,000 ratings on TasteAtlas.

In addition to the Peruvian Ceviche —a dish that has gained international popularity— Arroz Chaufa (Chinese-Peruvian fried rice) and Anticuchos (grilled beef heart kebabs) were also included in the 2021 list.

According to PromPeru, Ceviche Mixto finished just 0.08 points behind the first place, Mexico’s cochinita pibil.

Even the Peruvian-Chinese fusion inspired Arroz Chaufa was placed 0.18 points behind the aforementioned Mexican dish. Click here for more information about the TasteAtlas rankings.

Ceviche at TasteAtlas

“Ceviche Mixto is a classic Peruvian appetizer that differentiates itself from other types of ceviche by the addition of various seafood ingredients to regularly used fish. Those include shrimp, squid, octopus, clams, or scallops. A few mussels or small crabs are sometimes also added to the dish,” TasteAtlas described it.

In 2020, for the second consecutive year, the prestigious gastronomic guide chose ‘Ceviche’ as the most popular dish in South America, beating Brazil’s Churrasco and Argentina’s Asado.

In addition, TasteAtlas included 20 other Peruvian dishes in the ranking of the Most Popular South American Dishes, which confirmed Peru’s culinary tradition as one of the most important ones in the world.

The list featured flavorful dishes like Tiradito, Pollo a la Brasa, Butifarra, Lomo Saltado, Anticuchos, Picarones, Ceviche Mixto, Jalea, and the famous Leche de Tigre.
